Reframing Past Experiences and Re-telling The Story

Do you get fixated on past experiences?
Mistakes, regrets, and unfortunate occurrences can be tough to let go of and move on. Even when you feel like you’ve moved past something, sometimes those memories can linger in the subconscious. So what can you do to move through it?

Today, you will gain some tips on bringing light to the stubborn memory, and no longer cling to it as a burden. You will come out feeling lighter and see it as a gift for your evolution.

Just when you thought you overcame a painful experience, oftentimes, another memory will pop up. Imagine the unfolding of a lotus flower. As the bud begins to reveal its full blossoming, it takes many layers of the petals to unfold. Soon realizing that there are even more layers and depth to the lotus flower.

Similar to the lotus flower, we too have a beautiful unfolding of the soul.

In our lifetime, we are tested and challenged with diverse experiences.
Do you see these experiences as opportunities or obstacles?

When you’re able to see the experience as an opportunity, you are open to infinite possibilities. Your path can take you in many directions. What a beautifully momentous occasion to reframe your mindset!

Your path of transformation is painted by your mindset.

No matter how painful your past experience was – when you’re able to shift your perspective, you allow yourself to reprogram your subconscious and tell your story in a different light.

How can you re-tell this story that you’ve pre-written in your subconscious?

Everything happens for a reason.

Have you ever had a moment where you felt like an experience has happened before in another lifetime? Or maybe you’re meeting someone for the first time but felt like you’ve met them before. As if you’re picking up where you left off lifetimes ago? How about meeting someone and feeling like they are your mirror?

Whether you believe in past lives or the afterlife, people and experiences come into your lives for a reason. How can you shift your perspective of an experience to see it has happened for a reason?

Meditation and quiet reflection can often guide you to see an experience in a different light. Breathe into the memory and see it objectively. The situation has already happened. There’s no turning back time to change it. So how can you look back objectively to gain some insights into what the experience was teaching you? Or why this particular person came into your life? Perceive it with an open mind and open heart. What lesson is being taught?

Write down all of the things that have happened after the experience.
What wonderful things wouldn’t have happened if it wasn’t for this experience?
Which people you wouldn’t have encountered if it wasn’t for this experience?

If this memory is extremely painful and traumatic, ask a supportive and loving friend or nurturing professional to be by your side as you journey through the memory.

It’s never too late.

Whether your experience or encounter happened many moons ago, it’s never too late to reflect and re-tell the story in your subconscious. You can repaint the canvas of the memory at any time. Paint over the canvas. Through the process of moving through the deep-rooted memory, it can be a great practice to journal, dance, sing, paint, meditate, or start a yogic practice.

This beautiful journey of unfolding and transformation can take you to a vulnerable place. But when you’re open to listening to the lessons that it is there to teach you, wonderful things can appear before you.

Allow your soul to speak to you.

Welcome the illumination that can arise from old memories.

You may also realize that you are not alone. Most likely, many other folks around you have experienced similar experiences. When you’re ready to open up about it to others and confide, you may find solace in knowing that you are surrounded by others who are exploring their healing journey as well.

When we’re all able to feel safe to share our most vulnerable memories, we heal together. As Zen Master, Thich Nhat Hanh once said, “Peace in oneself, peace in the world.” Bringing healing, transformation, and compassion within yourself will trickle into your close relationships, and ultimately, to the world.
